IN BERTO BARBARANI'S BIRTHPLACE

The house of the Tosca Bistrot is not a simple building: to the tourist it may seem like a historic building like many others in Verona, but for the Veronese it is a special place. It is the birthplace of Berto Barbarani, an Italian poet of the late nineteenth century, but above all, a Veronese dialect poet. In his poems he represents environments and figures of the daily life of the Verona of his time, an author who has remained an iconic figure even today for all citizens.

BERTO'S VERONA

“drio ai pilastri dei pòrteghi, nei vicoli
sconti, tra el fumo de te torse a vento,
sempre su quela de sfidar pericoli,
a tri, a quatro, a compagnie de çento
i se spetava par saltarse adosso.”
